The Church at Thessalonica, founded by Apostle Paul on his second Missionary journey – see Acts Chapter 17, was composed of coverts from among the Jews, devout Greeks, noble women and many from Gentiles heathenism, After leaving Thessalonica Paul sent Timothy to them – see Acts Chapter 7:10 and I Thessalonians 3:13 and he later brought a report to Paul in Corinth.
Many Thessalonians were disconsolate over departed loved ones -see chapter 4:13-17 some were idle – 4:11 and even disorderly – see Chapter 5:14, some maligned the motive and character of Paul, others longed for his presence. In response to the report of Timothy,. Apostle Paul wrote from Corinth to commend the believers for their faith, to defend his Apostleship and to unite himself to the Church in closer ties, to exhort to moral purity, brotherly love and diligence in daily work, to comfort them in their concern for their departed loved ones and to assure them of their deliverance from the coming judgment of the day of the LORD, to exhort them to watchfulness and orderly conduct in the assembly and in daily life.
